Thai Treasures Abound

June 30, 2015
Thai Treasures Abound
It was a journey into the heart of Thailand’s rich cultural heritage with The Peninsula’s Tastefully Thai campaign, an exciting three-month showcase supporting The Peninsula Bangkok’s initiative, Amazing Thailand, Happiness Within. Through a series of Thai-themed promotions throughout the hotel, The Peninsula Hong Kong invited guests to experience and understand the Thai Way of Happiness.

The taste of Thailand kicked off on 24 March with a unique Thai Afternoon Tea at The Lobby. Bestowing an exotic touch to this time-honoured tradition, the tea service featured tropical ingredients from Thailand, with a combination of sweet and savoury items such as coconut truffles and kaffir lime chicken sandwiches. Thai creations featured temptingly on The Lobby’s all-day dining menu, with the Phad Thai and Mango Sticky Rice proving most popular.  A series of Thai menus around the hotel borrowed from the expertise of Chamnan Thepchana, Executive Sous Chef of The Peninsula Bangkok, who travelled to Hong Kong to share his passion with our own hotel chefs.
Offering luxury down to the finest detail, this philosophy was expressed brilliantly with the hotel’s Thai amenity turndown service. Inspired by the Thai zodiac belief in auspicious colours of the day – each day of the week is symbolised by a different colour representing a corresponding god who protects the day, with an image of Buddha – vibrant daily amenities were crafted using traditional Thai ingredients. From Monday’s yellow lemongrass financier with mango jelly to Sunday’s red-hued lime cream cheese with red berry compote and candied ginger, each day of the week was a gem of a discovery.

Honouring Thailand’s incomparable spa traditions, The Peninsula Spa invited guests to experience the fine art of Thai hospitality and body treatments with the Simply Peninsula Wat Po Royal Thai Massage and Herbal Compress. To deliver the ultimate in restorative and rejuvenating experiences, all of the treatment managers received diligent training courtesy of Thai massage experts at The Peninsula Bangkok after their landmark training with the Wat Po monks.

From fragrant fare to healing massage therapy, all the senses were stimulated with The Peninsula’s Tastefully Thai campaign. It was certainly a feast for the eyes at The Lobby, where bouquets crafted from tropical Thai blooms reflected the sunny shores and vivid nature of Thailand. Adding to the splendour, were 10 baby elephant replicas on display at key locations throughout the hotel – The Peninsula’s magnificent Elephant Parade. Placed at the Front Desk, Concierge, Spa and more, the elephants highlighted specific hotel locations based on their individual designs and “personalities”. The world’s largest exhibition of decorated elephant statues, the pieces, which were inspired by the designs of renowned global artists, celebrities and designers, were available for purchase. Proceeds from the sale of the statues went directly towards supporting indigenous Asian elephant welfare in Thailand.
