A Toast to Chicago
This autumn, the Grande Dame feted all things Chicago with a whirlwind of Windy City-themed initiatives acknowledging The Peninsula Chicago’s exquisite revamp. The Peninsula Chicago has long been a preferred choice for business and leisure travellers alike, and with the destination’s recently completed French Deco restyling of its 331 guest rooms and suites, patrons are now privy to an even more luxurious experience.

The Peninsula Hong Kong celebrated the remodelling of its sister property by bringing some of the best elements of the Midwestern city to Hong Kong’s shores. Playing home to an exclusive exhibition featuring the works of urban photographer William Furniss, the hotel proudly displayed the artist’s imaginative impressions of some of Chicago’s most notable landmarks: The Wrigley Building and Skywalk, the Bridge House on the DuSable Bridge, and the city’s acclaimed Picasso sculpture.

The Peninsula Hong Kong also tantalised taste buds with dishes inspired by Chicago’s culinary palate. Guests dined on creations such as Chicago-style Italian beef sandwiches and a reinvented Chicken Vesuvio, while dessert was an attraction in itself – Chicago-themed welcome amenities sated sweet-lovers with decadent chocolate brownies, mouthwatering cheesecakes, Garrett popcorn, and remarkable chocolate treats in the style of the John Hancock building.
Meanwhile, guests were invited to tune in to the sultry sounds of live blues in The Lobby, The Bar, Salon de Ning and Gaddi’s. Touted as the “sweet home of the blues”, Chicago’s signature style of jazz goes down as easy as some of the region’s famed cocktails. The home base to notorious 1920s gangster Al Capone, Chicago and its Prohibition speakeasies were revolutionary, as were their drinks. Peninsula patrons sipped on specialty, Prohibition-era cocktails such as Bee’s Knees and South Side creations, raising a glass to all things Chicago.
